STRATEGY & SELECTION PROCESS
The Duchenne Research Fund has its own Scientific Advisory board, consisting of 3 of the leading minds in the field of Muscular Dystrophy. This Scientific Advisory board is spearheaded by Ronald Cohn, M.D. (Associate Professor in Paediatrics, University of Toronto; Chief, Clinical and Metabolic Genetics & Co-director, Centre for Genetic Medicine, The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto). The other Scientific Advisors to the Trust consist of Professor Victor Dubowitz (Emeritus Professor of Paediatrics Imperial College London & President of World Muscle Society), as well as Dr Kevin Campbell (Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Iowa). The Trust has devised a robust 2 tiered review process for any projects that The Duchenne Research Fund chooses to consider supporting.
In order to expand the research portfolio of The Duchenne Research Fund and to make sure we have the best possibility of exploring every avenue that could help DMD sufferers survive, The Duchenne Research Fund is continuously seeking to expand our research portfolio, as and when recommended by the Scientific Advisory Board.
The Duchenne Research Fund is always keen to hear from scientists who would like to submit research proposals for our Scientific Advisory Board to consider.
At The Duchenne Research Fund we aim to specifically focus our efforts on research related to the pathogenesis and treatment of DMD caused by duplications.
With this focus in mind, timing is crucial, but even more so is the need to have the funding in place to enable the Trust to act immediately as and when such projects are presented to the Trust.
The Duchenne Research Fund is highly committed to support the most relevant research proposals in relation to finding therapies and a cure for DMD.
